Jim Goetz

Jim Goetz is a Partner at Sequoia Capital, where he has spent nearly three decades as both an entrepreneur and investor. He and his partners have backed some of the most influential technology companies in the world.
Jim was appointed Steward of Sequoia, where he co-led the global partnership alongside Neil Shen and Doug Leone, and previously led the U.S. venture business with Roelof Botha. He also helped expand the firm’s investment approach into public markets through Sequoia Capital Global Equities. Jim began his investing career under the mentorship of Sir Michael Moritz.
Before joining Sequoia, Jim co-founded VitalSigns Software, a pioneer in application performance management. Earlier in his career, he held leadership and engineering roles at SynOptics, AT&T, Bell Labs, and Digital Equipment.
He holds a BS in Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and an MS in Engineering from Stanford University. Jim now spends most of his time in Florida, where he leads philanthropic efforts through Mae Philanthropies and manages family investments via Casimir Holdings. He also serves on the boards of Intel, Palo Alto Networks, and several private companies.
